EJW 2009 Conference - Washington, D.C.
On October 23rd, University of Miami Law students and alumni convened in Washington DC to kick off the Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair weekend. The gathering sparked networking, brainstorming and new friendships among the ever-growing base of alumni working in DC. Graduates from several federal offices, including DOJ, SEC, SSA and various public interest organizations and public sector positions offered support and encouragement to the 20 law students in attendance. "The experience of being around so many like minded people at the EJW conference was invigorating”, said UM Law student, Fernando Silva.
The EJW Conference and Career Fair provided students with the opportunity to interview with over 130 agencies. Many UM law students secured interviews prior to the conference and all of our students engaged in the rapid-fire table talk opportunities featured at the conference. On hand were law school professionals from across the country, offering tips and encouragement, as well as reviewing resumes and coaching for the interviews. “ The EJW Conference offered me an unparalleled opportunity to interview with one of our nation's leading civil rights defense agencies and various other public interest organizations. Not only did the conference allow me to sharpen my interviewing skills, but it provided me the opportunity to open new windows to a successful public interest career through networking”, said 2L Evan Sloop.
Dean Lennon, Co-Chair of the National Advisory Committee for Equal Justice Works was thrilled by the involvement of UM Law students and alumni. “We are building a community of UM Law graduates in Washington DC and to have an opportunity to link many of our most dynamic students and graduates was not only very fulfilling, it will lead to job networking and opportunities.”
