WELCOME to the 2009 UM LAW HOPE DAY OF SERVICE
The Class of 2012 started their law school education off with service as more than 350 students and site leaders hit the bricks to kick off HOPE Day of Service. The students were greeted by Dean White who encouraged them to recognize that service is at the core of the profession and urged them to remember that behind the legal issues are individuals and communities in need. The students, adorned in orange and green HOPE t-shirts listened as Marni Lennon, Assistant Dean for Public Interest and Pro Bono, congratulated the students on choosing to start their legal careers by engaging in service. “By choosing to make a difference in the lives of others, our students are demonstrating that they recognize that the privilege of legal education comes with an obligation to promote access to justice for others,” Lennon said. The teams dedicated themselves to service on behalf of children, the elderly, animals, the environment, survivors of domestic violence, and agencies providing health care services and education. “HOPE Day gives new and returning students a chance to connect not only with each other, but with the greater Miami community as a whole”, said Sr. HOPE Fellow Erin Boatman. “This event sets the tone for a year of civic engagement and advocacy at UM Law.”

Thanks to the over 350 volunteers who chose to make a difference as we kick of this school year! Join us for the 1st HOPE Night Out at Crazy Pianos in Coconut Grove. Free drink and food/drink specials available for all UM Law students and friends from 5PM-close! All are welcome. Crazy Pianos is located at CocoWalk at 3015 Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove.
