HOPE Fellows

HOPE Fellows work with domestic and international public interest agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide much-needed legal advocacy to children, immigrants, the homeless, victims of hate crimes, discrimination, and abuse, and others who are in need. Over the years, the program has grown from two local agencies to include international placements in countries such as Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Lebanon, England, and China. The HOPE Public Interest Resource Center sponsors the program and helps students to identify agencies that match their passions for service. Students receive a stipend for their work and are required to identify ways in which they can uniquely contribute to the agencies and constituencies they serve. When they return to campus, Fellows then design a project to involve other UM Law students in advocacy related to the their area of concentration.

Miami Scholars

Dean Lennon welcomes newest Miami Scholar, Class of 2012, Stephen Heymann, at Law Day on March 27th, 2009.

Bringing outstanding students with a passion for public service to the University of Miami School of Law has been the goal of the Miami Scholars Program since its inception in 1997. The Miami Scholars Program was designed to attract students with a strong desire to bring their dedication to social justice to the next level, by providing them with appropriate resources and support. Candidates from across the country engage in an intensive review process, with special attention paid to excellent academic achievement, strong LSAT scores and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Equal Justice Works Fellow

The Equal Justice Works (formerly NAPIL) Fellowships Program was launched in 1992 to address the shortage of attorneys working on behalf of traditionally under-served populations and causes in the United States and its territories. Recognizing that many obstacles prevent committed attorneys from practicing public interest law, including the dearth of entry-level jobs and daunting educational debts, the program provides financial and technical support to lawyers working on innovative and effective legal projects. The two-year Fellowships offer salary and generous loan repayment assistance; a national training and leadership development program; and other forms of support during the term of the Fellowship.
