Bringing outstanding students with a passion for public service to the University of Miami School of Law has been the goal of the Miami Scholars Program since its inception in 1997. The Miami Scholars Program awards selected students a partial-tuition scholarship and support in either securing or funding a summer public interest internship or an academic program. The program includes mentoring sessions with upper-class scholars and public interest lawyers, monthly meetings, and individualized course advising and career planning. Miami Scholars participate in, and lead, various UM Law initiatives and serve on the Public Interest Leadership Board.

The Miami Scholars are an exceptional group of students who are selected based on their outstanding academic credentials and demonstrated commitment to public interest/service and pro bono work. Their exceptional public service background and ongoing commitment to service and advocacy make them natural leaders for public interest initiatives at the UM Law.

Miami Scholars serve as leaders and chairs on the Public Interest Leadership Board (PILB), developing and implementing outstanding programs and projects. The PILB consists of a dynamic group of UM Law students dedicated to public service including HOPE Fellows, summer public interest students, project leaders, and Miami Scholars. In addition to being at the forefront of developing public interest/service opportunities and programs, the PILB provides a forum for students with a commitment to public service to address institutional policies while exploring post-graduate opportunities. Students serve on a range of committees dedicated to alumni/development, community and public relations, programming, education and career development. Through committee and PILB meetings and the programming they generate, Miami Scholars contribute greatly to UM Law.
