HOPE CHALLENGE & HOPE Commitment
HOPE seeks to foster a pro bono ethic in all law students by fostering opportunities for civic engagement and advocacy on behalf of underserved individuals and communities. We challenge each law student to accept the HOPE Pro Bono Challenge and provide at least 50 hours of law-related volunteer work. The 50-hour minimum for the Challenge may be accomplished over the course of the student’s law school career, i.e. three years. Students fulfilling the 50-hour challenge will receive graduation recognition and transcript notation.
Please click here to accept the HOPE Pro Bono Challenge. By accepting the Pro Bono Challenge, you have indicated an awareness of the responsibility to give back to others by promoting access to justice. We commend your dedication to making a difference in the lives of others.
Some examples of current HOPE projects that would qualify for the Challenge include the Pro Bono Legal Research Project, VITA, Financial Literacy and Workplace Justice. Please also note that your participation in a clinic or externship that fulfills a credit requirement or for which you are paid does not qualify for the Challenge. However, any time above and beyond those required for your position may be counted. If you have any questions or concerns about whether an activity qualifies for the Challenge, please e-mail, call or stop by the HOPE Office. We look forward to meeting with you to learn about the ways in which you wish to serve others and help you to identify opportunities to do so.
The HOPE Commitment is another initiative to spur community involvement and civic engagement. The HOPE Commitment fosters community involvement and those who make the commitment agree to provide a minimum of 25 hours of community service during the academic year. This annual commitment can be renewed in successive years and students completing 25 hours will be recognized at our Spring Recognition Reception.
Some examples of current HOPE Projects that would qualify for the Commitment include: Books & Buddies, Neat Stuff, First Book, and Canes Angels. Please click here to accept the HOPE Commitment. Please note that community service may be performed through HOPE, a student organization or individually. If you have any questions or concerns about whether an activity qualifies for the Commitment, please e-mail, call or stop by the HOPE Office. We look forward to meeting with you to help identify the ways in which you wish to serve others.
