Law School Scholar awards are granted to full-time law students whose academic and personal accomplishments promise scholarly success and leadership in law school and in the practice of law. Recipients receive full-tuition awards and a yearly stipend of $1,000.   Awards are for the fall and spring semester Law School tuition only, except that they provide a full scholarship for one summer of enrollment in either one of our summer abroad programs or on-campus summer sessions following the first or second year of law school.

Law School Scholars also receive a full-tuition scholarship if they are admitted to and enroll in one of our LL.M. programs directly upon graduation (or in the case of the School's joint JD/LL.M. offerings, before graduation). The School offers LL.M. programs in Comparative Law (for graduates of foreign law schools), Estate Planning, Inter-American Law, International Law, Ocean and Coastal Law, Real Property Development, and Taxation.

These scholarships are awarded on the basis of admissions credentials and achievements without regard to financial need. No separate application is required.  Recipients are invited to participate in a scholarship weekend being held in Miami on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28, 2009.  By mid-February, recipients will be notified and invited to participate in the scholarship weekend at the School's expense.

To ensure the award of the Scholarship, recipients must accept their scholarship award and pay the $300 seat deposit* by the required date.

     * In order to confirm entering students’ intention to enroll at the University of Miami, it is necessary for them to submit a $300 deposit which will be applied to their first semester's tuition.  Note that $100 of this deposit is non-refundable.  The deposit may be paid online through myUM or by sending a check payable to the University of Miami to the Office of Admissions.  The deposit is due on April 15, 2009.  If plans to enroll should change after a deposit is paid, a partial refund of the deposit will be made based upon the schedule described in the acceptance packet.
