The Miami Scholars Program targets candidates from across the United States who, in addition to excellent academic achievement and strong scores on the LSAT, have a demonstrated interest in public service. Up to twenty-two entering law students, approximately two from each of the eleven federal judicial circuits, are selected each year as Miami Scholars. Miami Scholars serve on the Public Interest Leadership Board through the HOPE Public Interest Resource Center and play a key role in advancing public interest programming and opportunities at the School of Law.
Each Miami Scholar is awarded an annual $25,000 law school tuition scholarship provided a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better is maintained. In addition, Miami Scholars are guaranteed either funding for a public interest summer position after their first year or granted a partial tuition scholarship for one summer of enrollment in either one of our summer abroad programs or the on-campus summer session following their first or second year of law school. Miami Scholars also receive a partial tuition scholarship if they are admitted to and enroll in one of our LL.M. programs upon graduation (or, in the case of the School's JD/LL.M. Programs, before graduation). The School offers LL.M. programs in Comparative Law (for graduates of international law schools), Estate Planning, Inter-American Law, International Law, Ocean and Coastal Law, Real Property Development, and Taxation. Miami Scholarships are available for full-time students only. To view profiles of our current Miami Scholars, click here.
A separate application is required for the Miami Scholars Program. Applications are accepted only from candidates who have been admitted to the School of Law for the upcoming academic year. The application must be received no later than March 1, 2010. Successful applicants will be notified soon after the March 1 deadline. The application for the 2010 Miami Scholars Program will be posted by December 1, 2009.
