Each year the School of Law awards renewable Dean's Scholarships to entering law students who have strong academic records and possess other outstanding qualifications for the study of law. Over the past few years, the Law School has awarded an annual average of more than $8 million in scholarship money to admitted students. 

Dean's Scholarships vary in the amount awarded. Dean's Scholarships are for the fall and spring semester Law School tuition only, except that they are granted a partial scholarship for one summer of enrollment in either one of our summer abroad programs or on-campus summer session following their first or second year of law school. 

Dean’s Scholarships are limited to full-time students and end upon graduation from the J.D. program.  There are also some Dean’s Scholarships available to LL.M. students, which are awarded separately at the time of admission to an LL.M. program. 

No separate application is required for the Dean’s Scholarships; all admitted students are automatically considered for them. Typically, the award process begins in mid-December and continues on a rolling basis as long as funds are available.  Recipients will be notified of the amount and terms of renewal.  To ensure the award of the Scholarship, recipients must accept their scholarship award and pay the $300 seat deposit* by the required date.

*In order to confirm entering students’ intention to enroll at the University of Miami, it is necessary for them to submit a $300 deposit which will be applied to their first semester's tuition.  Note that $100 of this deposit is non-refundable.  The deposit may be paid online through myUM or by sending a check payable to the University of Miami to the Office of Admissions.  The deposit is due on April 15, 2009.  If plans to enroll should change after a deposit is paid, a partial refund of the deposit will be made based upon the schedule described in the acceptance packet.
