Helena Alviar studied law at Universidad de los Andes and has a Master's and Doctorate in Economic Law and Gender from Harvard Law School. Currently, she is Dean and Associate Professor of law at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá – Colombia.
Professor Alviar has taught at universities in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, United States and Italy. Her recent publications include The Unending Quest for Land: The Tale of Broken Constitutional Promises in Texas Law Review Symposium 2011 and Legal Reform, Social Policy, and Gendered Redistribution in Colombia: The Role of the Family in American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy & the Law.
At Miami Law she teaches a course on Latin American Law & Institutions.
