Professor Torres earned her B.A. in Business Administration and M.B.A., both with honors, from Florida International University. She received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1993.
After law school, Professor Torres joined the law firm of Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A., as an associate in the firm's Miami office. She became a Shareholder in 1999, working primarily in the firm's Labor and Employment Law Department. During her career in private practice, she represented employers in a wide range of employment matters, including claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Florida Civil Rights Act, and various other federal, state, and local laws. Professor Torres has extensive experience at the pretrial, trial, and appellate levels. She has briefed and argued several appeals before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Florida Supreme Court, and Florida's First, Third, and Fourth District Courts of Appeal.
Professor Torres joined the Miami Law faculty in June 2010. She teaches Legal Communication and Research Skills and an upper-level writing course focusing on effective client communications. She belongs to several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. She is recognized with an AV Preeminent Rating and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers.
Professor Torres has served as an expert witness regarding employment disputes and attorney's fees. She has also presented at legal writing conferences, including the Legal Writing Institute (LWI) conference held in Miami in December 2011 and the LWI's biennial national conference held in Palm Desert, California, in May 2012.
