Brenda M. Brown, director of financial aid, holds a B.B.A. from the University of Miami, where she has worked for over 29 years.

Her first four years, she worked in the Office of Undergraduate Studies. In 1988, she transferred to the University of Miami Office of Financial Assistance Services, where she remained for 14 and half years. She held many positions including financial aid advisor, delivery and scholarship coordinator, and various assistant director positions which included major responsibilities in areas such as delivery, verification, publications and staff development. Her last position in that office was as systems manager, a position where she managed and supported the financial aid system for the main, law and medical campuses. In 2002, she joined the Law School's financial aid office as the associate director, and was promoted to director in 2005.

She has served as a member on the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Association (NASFAA) Access & Diversity Committee (ADC) three times and twice with the Graduate and Professional Issues Committee(GPIC). She received a Special Recognition Award for her leadership serving as the 2010-11 Graduate and Professional Issues Committee (GPIC) Chair.

In the Fall 2011, she was selected by the Advisory Committee for Student Financial Assistance to speak at the public hearing for the Higher Education Regulation Study. She joined other higher education colleagues to speak about the challenges faced by the financial aid community in identifying, interpreting and ensuring federal student aid compliance with her focus being on the graduate and professional sector.

In 2009-10 she served as Conference Chair for the Southern Association of Student Financial aid Administrators Association (SASFAA). In 2008-09 she served as the SASFAA Management Institute Chair. She has also served as a committee member for two years on the SASFAA Governance & Planning and SASFAA Professional Advancement (Training) Committees and one year as the Florida Representative on the SASFAA Conference Committee. She is also a graduate of the SASFAA Leadership Symposium.

She has also served on the Executive Board of the Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (FASFAA) in several leadership capacities. She has served as Electronic Services Chair and Graduate and Professional Initiatives Chair several times. She was also elected as a Region Representative and served as a committee member on various other committees that include, but are not limited to Scholarship, Ambassador, Conference, Training and Nominations. In 2009-10 she received a FASFAA's Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service to the financial aid community.

In addition, she has participated in many training and workshop programs for national, state and regional organizations. She has also been actively involved on campus in presenting financial aid sessions to students, parents, colleagues and specific program attendees.
