Margaret Raymond is a professor of law at the University of Iowa College of Law, where she teaches courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, professional responsibility, and federal income taxation.
Professor Raymond previously served as a law clerk to the late Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court and Judge James L. Oakes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She also practiced law as a commercial litigator with Morrison & Foerster in New York and later as a criminal defense lawyer with Hoffman & Matasar in Portland, Oregon. She was also a consultant to The Asia Foundation in Bangkok, Thailand, and was appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to the Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct Drafting Committee.
Professor Raymond’s scholarship focuses on constitutional criminal procedure, substantive criminal law, and the professional responsibility of lawyers. She holds a JD law degree from Columbia University School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree from Carleton College. Her publications include articles in the Buffalo Law Review, the Journal of Legal Education, the Yale Law Journal Pocket Part, the Vermont Law Review, and a number of other law reviews and journals.
