Professor David Abraham Presents Papers in Israel. Professor Abraham presented a paper entitled "Doing Justice on Two Fronts: The Liberal Dilemma in Immigration" to the Hebrew University Research Group on Immigration and Human Rights on December 26th, 2007. Professor Abraham also participated in an international conference at Tel Aviv University, where he presented a paper entitled "Hard on the Outside, Hard on the Inside, Too? Professor Ricardo J. Bascuas Moderates Panel on "The Exercise of Judicial Discretion Under the Federal Rules of Evidence." The panel discussion took place during Professor Bascuas' Evidence class on November 5, 2007 and featured Chief Judge Federico Moreno (JD '78), Judge Adalberto Jordan (JD ’87) and Judge Jose Martinez (JD '65), all from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Professor Casebeer participated in the Second Annual Colloquium on Current Scholarship in Labor and Employment Law, which took place on September 28-29, 2007. Professor Martha R. Mahoney Participates in Panel on Voting Rights. The panel discussion was held at UM Law School on October 29th, 2007. Topics discussed included civil rights issues related to voting rights, election reform, restoring the voting rights of ex-felons, ways college students can get involved in the voting process, and the replacement of controversial touchscreen voting machines in several Florida counties with voting equipment that leaves a paper trail. Professor Bernard H. Oxman Re-elected as Co-Editor in Chief of the American Journal of International Law. Professor Oxman, the Richard A. Hausler Professor of Law at the University of Miami Law School, and his co-editor, Professor Lori Fisler Damrosch, the Henry L. Moses Professor of International Law and Organization at Columbia University, were re-elected on November 3rd, 2007 as editors in chief of the American Journal of International Law (AJIL) for a second term commencing in April 2008. Professor Bernard H. Oxman Speaks at International Conference on the Law of the Sea. Professor Oxman participated in the "International Conference: Law of the Sea - A Half Century after the Geneva Conventions," which took place in Seoul, Korea on October 16-18, 2007. Professor Oxman testified before the United States Committee on Foreign Relations on October 4, 2007, regarding the Law of the Sea Convention. Professor Widen gave a talk at the meeting of the American Association of Law Schools Section on Creditors' and Debtors' Rights held in conjunction with the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida on October 10-13, 2007. Professor Widen spoke about Structural Challenges for Bankruptcy Reorganizations on a plenary panel dedicated to considering developments since passage of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. Professor Bruce J. Winick Testifies at NACDL Public Hearing. Professor Winick provided testimony at a public hearing of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Problem-Solving Court Task Force, which was conducted in Miami on October 17, 2007. The Task Force was established to examine the operations of drug courts, mental health courts, domestic violence courts, and other problem-solving courts around the country. Full Story.
