Professor David Abraham Lectures at the University of Marburg, Germany Professor Abraham gave a lecture to the Law Faculty at the University of Marburg (Germany) on the topic of “US Immigration Law: Fundamental Principles and Mechanisms –A Perspective for Germany and the EU."  Full story.

Professor David Abraham Selected to Participate in Silberman Seminar Professor Abraham was selected to participate in the highly competitive Silberman Seminar on the Holocaust, Genocide, and the Law. The seminar took place in Washington, D.C. from June 4-15, 2007.  Full story.

Professor David Abraham Participates in Princeton University Conference Professor Abraham participated in a conference entitled A World of Legal Conflicts: Multiple Norms in the International System, sponsored by the Princeton University Program in Law and Public Affairs (LAPA).  Full story.

Professor Anthony V. Alfieri Presents Paper at New England Clinicians Conference at Harvard Law School and at Suffolk University Law School on Civil Rights Lawyering Professor Alfieri presented his most recent working paper entitled "(Un)Covering Identity in Civil Rights Lawyering" at the New England Clinicians Conference at Harvard Law School and at Suffolk University Law School in Boston.  Full story.

Professor Anthony V. Alfieri Presents a Paper on Community Lawyering. The conference took place at the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. Professor Alfieri also moderated a workshop featuring the Community Economic Development and Design Clinic’s community partnership with Florida Legal Services. Full story.

Professor Mary I. Coombs Speaks at Health Law Professors Conference Professor Coombs spoke at the 30th Annual Health Law Professors Conference, sponsored by The American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics and the Boston University School of Law.  Full story.

Professor Mary I. Coombs Participates in Clinical Ethics Conference Professor Coombs was part of a panel on Managing Patient Safety in the 21st Century, as part of the The University of Miami's Ethics Programs’ "Clinical Ethics: Debates, Decisions, Solutions".  Full story.

Professor Ben Depoorter Presents at Yale Law School Symposium On April 10-11, Professor Depoorter returned to his alma mater to participate in the inaugural Symposium entitled: Next Generation Legal Scholarship.  Full story.

Professor Zanita E. Fenton is Featured in the Spring Edition of Miami Magazine In the Spring edition of Miami Magazine, Meredith Danton writes about Professor Fenton: "Fenton Keeps Her Cool in the Quest for Equality."   Full Story.

Professor A. Michael Froomkin Participates in International Workshop Professor Froomkin participated in an international, interdisciplinary workshop on anonymity, where he presented a paper entitled "Identity Cards and Identity Romanticism." The workshop was held in Bologna, Italy.  Full story.

Professor Patrick O. Gudridge Speaks at Tulsa Law Review Symposium Professor Gudridge Spoke at the Tulsa Law Review's Sixth Annual Legal Scholarship Symposium entitled The Scholarship of Laurence Tribe. The Symposium brought together the nation’s premier constitutional legal scholars to discuss and critique the scholarship of Laurence  Tribe. Full story.

Professor Elizabeth M. Iglesias Files Briefs in Owaki v. City of Miami Professor Iglesias and Ray Taseff of the law firm of Chavez & De Leon, P.A. filed briefs in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, in Owaki v. City of Miami. The lawsuit raises claims under the First, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments, arising from the crowd control and use of force policies implemented by the City of Miami during the Free Trade Area of the Americas summit that was held in Miami. Professor Elizabeth M. Iglesias Receives Appreciation Award from the University of Miami Law Review Professor Iglesias received an Appreciation Award from the University of Miami Law Review in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the 2006-2007 Law Review Symposium entitled Article II: The Uses and Abuses of Executive Power.” Full story.

Professor Lili Levi Gives Faculty Talks at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and University of Florida Law School Professor Levi made a presentation to the law faculty at the University of Florida Law School, on the FCC’s indecency regulation regime. She also participated in a mini-symposium at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, discussing Professor C. Edwin Baker’s new book, " Media Concentration and Democracy: Why Ownership Matters." Professor JoNel Newman Argues in Front of 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals On June 6, 2007, the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals heard arguments over the Miami-Dade County School Board’s decision to remove a children’s book about Cuba from elementary school libraries. Professor JoNel Newman was lead ACLU counsel and argued the case on behalf of the plaintiff.  Full story.

Professor Bernard H. Oxman is Guest Speaker at Banquet Honoring Professor Tullio Treves, Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea Professor Oxman was invited by the University of California at Berkeley to be the guest speaker at a banquet on April 5, 2007 in honor of Professor Tullio Treves of the University of Milan.  Full story.

Professor Bernard H. Oxman is Elected to Serve as Vice-President of the American Society of International Law Professor Oxman was elected Vice President of the American Society of International Law on March 29 during the Society's Annual Meeting in Washington.   Full story.

Professor Bernard Perlmutter Testifies Regarding Children’s Mental Health Issues in the Florida Dependency and Delinquency Systems Professor Perlmutter presented testimony concerning the legal and service needs of children with mental illnesses and who are part of the Florida dependency and delinquency legal systems.   Full story.

Professor Irwin P. Stotzky Is Invited as Distinguished Visiting Professor and Scholar to Emory Law School Professor Stotzky spent a week at Emory Law School as Distinguished Visiting Professor and Scholar. He delivered a series of lectures on his work in refugee litigation and democratic transition. Full story.

Professor Stephen K. Urice Delivers Paper on Legal Issues Related to Museum Deaccessioning and Museums’ Antiquities Acquisitions Professor Urice delivered a paper on the law of museum deaccessioning at a conference organized by the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries in Philadelphia. Professor William H. Widen Participates in a Joint Conference on Commercial Law Realities The Joint Conference on Commercial Law Realities provides an opportunity for commercial law scholars who have been in teaching less than ten years to gather and offer papers in small-group settings, with the help of senior scholars. The conference was sponsored by the University of Texas at Austin School of Law & Harvard Law School, and took place at the Austin School of Law. Full story.

Professor Bruce J. Winick Helps Create New AALS Section The American Association of Law Schools (AALS) granted section status to a new section, "Balance in Legal Education." This section grew out of the Humanizing Legal Education Association, in which Professor Winick played a leading role and was a member of its Executive Committee.   Full story.

Professor Bruce J. Winick is Interviewed in NPR's "Weekend America" On May 19, 2007, Professor Winick was interviewed on NPR's "Weekend America," on the subject of sex offenders.   Full story.

Professor Bruce Winick Speaks at Conference on Mental Disorder and the Criminal Law On May 21-23, 2007, Professor Winick was a guest speaker at a Conference held at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln entitled "Mental Disorder and the Criminal Law: Responsibility, Punishment, and Competence."   Full story.

Professor Bruce J. Winick Participates in Psychology, Public Policy & Law Symposium Professor Winick was the moderator and one of the speakers at the Annual Symposium held by the Board of Student Editors of Psychology, Public Policy & Law.   Full story.

Professor Bruce J. Winick Speaks at the Onati International Institute for the Sociology of Law Professor Winick spoke at the Onati International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Onati, Spain, at a workshop on Victim Participation in Justice and Therapeutic Jurisprudence: A Comparative Analysis. Professors JoNel Newman and Bernard Perlmutter Speak at Conference on Unaccompanied Immigrant Children   The Children & Youth Law Clinic (CYLC) co-sponsored the 2nd Annual Conference on Unaccompanied Immigrant Children, along with the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center and several other state and national children’s and immigrants’ advocacy organizations.  Full story.

Professors David Abraham and Irwin P. Stotzky Participate in Immigration Conference The Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board presented a conference entitled “Impact of Immigration Laws in Our Community.” Professor Stotzky participated in a panel entitled “Current and Future Developments in Immigration Laws and Policies."
