Professor Charlton Copeland joined the faculty as an associate professor in the fall of 2007. He received an A.B. from Amherst College in 1996, a M.A.R. (Master of Arts in Religion) from Yale Divinity School in 2002, and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 2003. He served as a law clerk to Justices Richard J. Goldstone and Catherine O’Regan of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, and to Judge R. Guy Cole, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He was an associate with the firm of Hogan & Hartson in Washington, DC. Prior to joining the University of Miami faculty, Professor Copeland served as a visiting assistant professor at Northwestern University School of Law from 2006-2007. Professor Copeland’s research interests are administrative law, federal courts and federalism, comparative constitutional law, and race and the law. Professor Copeland will teach Federal Courts and a Preemption seminar in the spring of 2010.
