1L Career Planning Center Orientation (1L)
1L orientation will be held on
Tuesday, November 2, Wednesday, November 3 and Thursday, November 4 at 12:30pm
in room 108. It is important that all first year students attend one of these
meetings. We will be discussing the various ways in which the Career
Planning Center can assist you throughout your UM Law school career, and how to
begin looking for a summer legal opportunity. Additionally, all 1L
students should have heard from their assigned Career Planning Center Advisor.
If you do not know who your advisor is, you can ask at the meeting, or
talk to the front desk at the Career Planning Center Office.
PRLDEF Corporate Legal Internship 2005
(1L, 2L)
The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund
(PRLDEF) is partnering with various corporations to expand their paid
summer internship program for law students, particularly disadvantaged
Latinos and students of color, who are interested in pursuing careers in
corporate legal departments. The summer stipend offered will be determined by
each corporation.
Current corporate partners for the summer of 2005
include: Allstate Insurance Company
(Chicago, IL), Bristol-Myers Squibb (NY and NJ), IBM (White Plains, NY, Johnson
& Johnson (NJ), Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (NYC), Pfizer
Pharmaceauticals (NYC), Verizon (NYC). Students interested in being

Echoing Green Fellowship
(3L)
The global nonprofit Echoing Green
is launching a search for visionary new leaders who want to start their own
organizations to create lasting social change. Through the prestigious two-year
Echoing Green Fellowship, emerging social entrepreneurs have the chance to
receive $60,000 in seed funding and technical assistance to launch organizations
that address the root causes of society's most difficult problems.

Arthur C. Helton Fellowship Program
Application instructions and
eligibility guidelines for the Arthur C. Helton Fellowship Program are now
available on the web site of The American Society of International Law at
www.asil.org. Established in honor of
Arthur C. Helton's remarkable career advocating for refugees and his many
contributions to international law, this one-time program will assist students
and young lawyers in need of modest sums (up to $1000) to pursue their first
opportunities to engage in human rights work and research. The application
deadline is January 31, 2005 and awards will be made by March 1, 2005.
Patent Bar
Examination
(Everyone)
Interested in
pursuing a career in Intellectual Property? If you have a technical or science
background, you may qualify to sit for the Patent Bar examination. Stop by CPC
to pick up an informational packet on how to apply for the examination. For

The
Miami-Dade Office of Statewide Prosecution
(2L, 3L)
If you want to gain
invaluable experience in complex criminal litigation, apply for a Spring 2005
internship at the Miami-Dade Office of Statewide Prosecution. As an intern, you
will assist Assistant Statewide Prosecutors in their investigation and
prosecution of various crimes - ranging from fraud against the government, large
scale consumer fraud (i.e. identity theft), and violent offenses (i.e. narcotics
trafficking) committed by organized groups. Students must have at least a 3.0
GPA and be willing to work 20 hours per week. Application deadline is
December 15, 2004.

Government Opportunities
(IL, 2L, 3L)
Students interested in working with the government during
the summer or after graduation should visit the Career Planning Center and take a look at
the Government Honors Handbook in the Resource Room (pink cover). There
are many additional governmental agencies, other then the DOJ, that offer
opportunities to law students and graduates. Many of the Government
Honors Programs have early deadlines so don't delay.

Congratulations to all those of you who have
passed the bar. We know that you worked very hard to achieve this
accomplishment. Many of you are well into your job search. Please let us

panic. There are many jobs out there, and we get information about more and
