PREP Students Conduct Ethics & Technology Training for the Dade County Bar Association

Students from Miami Law's Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program (PREP) — Daniel Casamayor, Matthew Friendly, and Candice Lazar — recently presented an interactive ethics and technology program at the Dade County Bar Association's Professionalism CLE. Under the supervision of Jan Jacobowitz, director of PREP, the students created a lively hypothetical format, which focused on ethical issues pertaining to Facebook, cutting-edge advertising formats, and proposed changes to Florida's advertising rules.

Miami Law Students Conduct Ethics Training for Palm Beach County Bar

Justin Ortiz and Matthew Friendly, two students in Miami Law's Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program, recently presented an interactive ethics and technology session for the Palm Beach County Bar Association's Technology Practice Committee's Program.

Avoid Miscommunication: PREP Students Expound at Bankruptcy Bar

Effective communication was the theme of a recent presentation by PREP students Shayla Waldon and Patrick Poole before members of the Bankruptcy Bar Association of the Southern District of Florida. The students told the group that clarity was a key component of ethics and professionalism in the field.

PREP Students Conduct Ethics Training for the Bankruptcy Bar Association (Broward 2011)

Patrick Poole and Shayla Waldon, interns from the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program (PREP), recently presented a CLE Ethics training for the Bankruptcy Bar Association in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Under the supervision of Jan L. Jacobowitz, director of PREP, the interns presented hypothetical situations of a host of ethical dilemmas commonly confronted by bankruptcy attorneys.

Miami Law Students Hold Ethics Training for the Bankruptcy Bar Association (Dade 2011)

Miami Law students from the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program presented a CLE training for the Bankruptcy Bar Association of Miami-Dade County. Student Fellows Irma Khoja, Matipa Nyamangwanda, and Bianca Zuluaga, as well as Program Director Jan Jacobowitz, Judge Laurel Myerson-Isicoff and Judge Robert Mark of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida participated in the panel.

Housed under the Center for Ethics and Public Service, the PREP program allows law students to travel to bar associations, legal services organizations, government agencies, law firms and corporations in South Florida to provide customized education in ethics.

Jacobowitz, second-year law students Shanelle Johnson and Nicole Pearl conducted a training session that addressed the ethical implications of an untruthful client and the use of social networking to uncover the truth, as well as conflicts of interest between the rights of a former client and the duties to a prospective client.

Miami Law's Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program completed the spring semester with a CLE ethics training session for the Cuban American Bar Association. Under the supervision of the program's director, Jan L. Jacobowitz, third-year law students Courtney Daniels, Daniela Torrealba and Charlie Muniz addressed ethical issues faced by lawyers in a technologically advanced age.

Students Run Ethics Training for Women Lawyers Association

Miami law students Daniel Casamayor, Nykeah Cohen and Candice Lazar, from the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program, recently presented a CLE ethics training for the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association in Coral Gables. The students led attendees through three timely hypothetical situations, with topics that included the ethical issues involved in website advertising, legal outsourcing, blogging and vetting attorney fees.
