2006 Summer Corps Program!
Equal
Justice Works is excited to announce the launch of the
2006 Summer Corps program!
Summer Corps is an AmeriCorps-funded program that will provide 315 law
students with the opportunity to earn a $1,000 education award voucher for
dedicating their summer to a qualifying legal internship at a nonprofit,
public interest organization.
Summer Corps slots are awarded on a first come,
first served basis, with consideration for Equal Justice Works law school
representation and geographic diversity. For more information about the
eligibility criteria and application and selection process for the 2006 Summer

The online application will be available to
students via our website from March 22 at 12:00 noon through April 5 at 5:00
pm.
This year,
in response to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Equal
Justice Works is committed to setting aside 65 Summer Corps slots for law
students who are providing disaster-related legal services in the Gulf Coast
region. Students are eligible for the
Katrina Summer Corps if the primary purpose of their internships is
to assist hurricane victims or evacuees in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi or
Texas.
NALP Apartment Exchange
NALP is

Dade County Bar Association -- Unique Professional Development Program
The
Professionalism Committee of the Dade County Bar Association Young Lawyers
Section presents "Unlock Your Potential: Strategies for Professionalism and
Professionalism Development," featuring keynote speaker Stephen B. Bright,
Director of the Southern Center for Human Rights and Visiting Lecturer at
Yale Law School. The Program will take place on
Friday, March 10, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt
Regency in Downtown Miami. More than 15 speakers -- including the
Miami-Dade County Attorney, several law firm partners, in-house counsel,
presidents of legal bar associations, legal recruiters and authors -- will

Katrina Legal Relief Efforts!
Equal Justice
Works/AmeriCorps Attorney Positions Available Immediately.
In response to the
devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina,
Equal Justice Works plans to expand its Pro Bono Legal Corps program, sending
10 Equal Justice Works/AmeriCorps Attorneys to the hardest hit areas in
the Gulf Coast region. These attorneys will be placed at organizations in
Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to help the hundreds of thousands of people
left without homes, jobs and social services due to the damage from the
hurricane.
The mission of the
Pro Bono Legal Corps (PBLC) is to build a commitment to
pro bono service at law schools and
among future lawyers by expanding law student and law school involvement in the
delivery of legal services. Supported by an AmeriCorps grant from the
Corporation for National and Community Service, the PBLC program offers its
members, called Equal Justice Works/AmeriCorps Attorneys, the opportunity to
implement projects that promote public service among law students while
providing critically needed legal services.
Katrina Pro Bono Legal Corps Host Organizations:

"Working in the Public Interest: Challenging Poverty
Through Law" conference
The University of Georgia School of
Law cordially invites you to attend the first "Working in the Public Interest:
Challenging Poverty Through Law" conference on April 7-8,
2006. The conference will be a two day event commencing on Friday,

Autism Legislative Project
Second and third year law students
are invited to participate in a pro bono opportunity to improve state and
national legislation on autism, the fastest growing developmental disability in
the nation. Working under the direction of an experienced
Chicago
attorney, students will collaboratively research and propose legislative
amendments both within their respective states and on a federal level. Regular
tele-conferences will be held to discuss ongoing research and proposed
legislative efforts, as well as to develop and evaluate strategies for the
advancement of project objectives. Participating students will be required
to volunteer a minimum of five (5) hours per week conducting research and

Public Interest law Initiative Summer Internships: Chicago
PILI Summer Internships offer
excellent legal experience and training at one of 20 PILI affiliated public
interest agencies in Chicago. PILI provides stipends of $4,500 to support
a limited number of law students hired to work at one of the agencies for 10
full-time weeks in the summer. PILI supports approximately 45 interns.
2L students can apply as early as October 15, 1L's must wait until December 1.

The American Bar Association Division for Public

internship. The program is designed to engage law students in an
individualized public interest legal research and writing project over a 10-week

FCBA Foundation Now
Accepting Applications for Funding of
Unpaid Legal
Internships at Government Agencies:
For the thirteenth consecutive year, the Federal
Communications Bar Association Foundation will award stipends to law students
from its Chairman Robert E. Lee Scholarship and Internship Fund. In 2006, the
Foundation will award at least four $4,000 stipends to law students employed as
unpaid summer interns in positions with the FCC and other government agencies or
entities with jurisdiction over the communications industry (i.e., broadcasting,
cable television, telephony, satellite and information technology).
In addition, the Foundation will select one outstanding intern among the four
chosen to receive an additional stipend of $600 for the summer, as the "Max
Paglin Intern." Mr. Paglin was the former General Counsel and Executive
Director of the FCC, and the founder of the Golden Jubilee Commission on
Telecommunications, which compiled a definitive legislative history of the
Communications Act.
Requirements Applicants
will be selected on the basis of: (1) a demonstrated interest in the
communications field, (2) having secured or having pending, an unpaid summer
position (internship) for at least 8 weeks in communications with a government
agency, (3) dependence on financial assistance in order to accept the unpaid
internship in a government agency involved in communications; and (4) community
activities. To the extent a recipient receives unanticipated funding for the
unpaid internship, the FCBA Foundation's general policy is to reduce its
scholarship awards by any amount that a recipient's total funding (including all
sources) for the internship would otherwise exceed $7,000.

States Department of Agriculture 2006 Summer Internships
The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Office of
the General Counsel, is accepting applications for volunteer summer intern
positions at its headquarters in Washington, DC and 17 regional offices.
The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is an independent legal agency within
the USDA. The OGC performs a variety of legal functions on behalf of the
Secretary of Agriculture and the 38 agencies within the USDA, including
counseling in the formulation of policy, drafting contracts, reviewing
regulations and proposed legislation, and handling both trial and appellate
litigation. Summer interns will have the opportunity to work alongside OGC
attorneys and gain experience in the areas of regulatory law, legislation

2006 Gellhorn-Sargentich Law Student Essay Competition
TOPIC:
Discuss a problem or issue arising at the intersection of constitutional and
administrative law.
PRIZE:
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and round-trip airfare and
accommodation to attend the Section's
Fall Conference in Washington, DC. At
the discretion of the editorial
board, the winning entry will be selected for publication in Administrative and
Regulatory Law News.
ELIGIBILITY:
The competition is open to currently enrolled students of
ABA-accredited law schools who are
also members of the ABA Section of
Administrative Law and Regulatory
Practice. The essay must be the student's original, unpublished work. The paper
may be prepared to satisfy a course requirement or for other academic credit.
However, the essay must be the work of the submitting student without
substantial editorial input from others. Co-authored papers are ineligible.
Only one essay may be submitted per entrant.
FORMAT:
Essays must not exceed 12 pages, including title, citations, and
any footnotes. The text of the essay
must be double-spaced, with twelve-point font and one-inch margins. Entries
should reflect the style of Administrative Law News articles rather than law
review style. Entrants are encouraged to review past copies of the News
available at

- prior to drafting their submissions. Citations must be embedded in
text or in footnote form; essays with endnotes will be disqualified. Cites
must conform with the 18th Edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of

of the proposal or thesis -Organization -Quality of the analysis and research

American College of Legal Medicine's Writing Competitions for 2006.
The American College
of Legal Medicine is proud to announce the two writing competitions for 2006.

For the Bioethics
Competition, the first place winner will be awarded $1,000 and a paid
round-trip, coach airfare along with one night's hotel accommodation to
present his/her paper as part of the ACLM Annual Meeting in Las Vegas on March
4, 2006. The second place winner will receive $500 and the third place winner
will receive $250. For the other Student Writing Competition, the ACLM will
award $1,000 to papers winning in one of three categories: the Schwartz Award
(to a medical student), the Letourneau Award (to a law student) and the Hirsh
Award (to a dentistry, podiatry, nursing, pharmacy, health science, health
care administration, or public health student).
All papers submitted
will receive consideration for publication in the
Journal of Legal Medicine or other
medical legal publications.
National Association of Counsel for Children 2006
Student Essay Competition.
The winner will be awarded $1,000 and
a scholarship to the NACC National Children's Law Conference in Louisville,
Kentucky. The winning essay will be published in the NACC 2006 Children's Law
Manual. Students interested in children's legal issues are encouraged to submit
an essay for consideration. Essays are due by August 1,
2006.
