Each fall, there are a number of programs, job fairs and other organized hiring opportunities. Generally called "Fall Recruiting" this period of time which lasts from July through December contains opportunities with the private sector, government agencies, members of the judiciary, public interest organizations and corporate legal departments.
"Spring Recruiting" is a collection of programs coordinated by the CDO for employers interested in interviewing Miami Law students for summer and post-graduate positions. Spring Recruiting generally takes place between February and April.
Information on Fall Recruiting 2013 will be available to students late in the spring semester.
Fall Résumé Referral and Direct Contact Program
The Fall Résumé Referral and Direct Contact Program is for those employers unable to interview on campus but would like to receive applications from interested students. Résumé Referral employers require that students submit all requested materials to the CDO. The CDO then forwards to employers all materials received. Direct Contact employers ask that students submit their application materials directly to the employer.
Spring Externship Program
The Spring Externship Program is an opportunity for students to receive academic credit for non-paid internships during the spring semester with local corporations, government agencies, public interest organizations and the judiciary. Law firms do not qualify for the externship program. Students gain practical legal experience by working under a lawyer’s supervision and earn academic credit through the Externship Course. By being enrolled for the Externship Course for the summer semester, students will have access to financial aid if eligible to receive same. The Externship Course is a pass/fail course that completes a student skills requirement. Students must work a set number of hours and complete the academic component of the course that will be taught by Professor Jennifer Zawid.
