Jeff Green, JD’02: Counsel for the Committee on Armed Services, U.S. House of Representatives
June 2005
Jeff Green recently returned from his fourth trip to the Middle East. As part of a congressional delegation that visited Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Jordan, Jeff and members of Congress met with heads of state, ambassadors, and U.S. troops. Jeff joined the staff of the House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services last fall. Prior to this position he was with the Department of Defense. In addition to Iraq policy, other responsibilities include procurement policy and detainee issues in the Global War on Terror. He served on a task force investigating detainee abuse cases and he played an important role in the drafting of the National Defense Authorization Bill that recently passed the House and is currently before the Senate. After graduating from Cornell University in 1994 with a degree in rural sociology, Jeff served for five years in the U.S. Air Force where he was an ICBM Missile Combat Crew Commander in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was also stationed in Saudi Arabia. During this period Jeff went to graduate school part-time at Wichita State University where he earned a master’s in sports administration. In law school, Jeff was a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and he interned with the Dolphins, Heat, and Marlins. He also interned on Capital Hill for a summer. To cover his expenses during law school, Jeff was active in the Air Force Reserves. He worked the night shift in the command post at the Air Force base in Homestead, Florida. Despite going to school full-time and working during his second and third year, Jeff managed to graduate in 2½ years. After receiving his degree in December 2002, he was recalled to active duty at the start of the war in March 2003, but was released in May at which time he began work at the Pentagon as a legislative liaison for the Secretary of the Air Force. Originally from Auburn, New York, Jeff is licensed to practice in Florida and New Jersey. Last year he was promoted to the rank of Major in the Air Force Reserve and this summer he is finishing his thesis for an LLM in government procurement at the George Washington University School of Law. Next April Jeff will marry his fiancée - Natalie Fay. |
