Maitri “Mike” Klinkosum, JD ’95, was awarded the North Carolina ACLU Award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union for his 4 year fight to win the freedom of Floyd Brown, an individual diagnosed with mental retardation who was wrongly committed for the murder of an elderly woman in 1993. The North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers awarded Mike the Kellie Crabtree Award for his work freeing Brown. Mike is now an Assistant Public Defender in Wake County, North Carolina, and is the author of the North Carolina Criminal Defense Motions Manual published by LexisNexis in July 2008.
