Judge Adalberto José Jordán — a Miami Law graduate who emigrated from Havana, Cuba with his parents at age six — has been nominated by President Barack Obama to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Miami Law Alumna Elected Chair of the 11th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission
Marlene Quintana, JD '96, was elected to serve as Chair of the 11th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) for a one-year term. Miami Law mourns the passing of alumnus Steven Harris Gruber, who died on November 21 of cancer. A cum laude graduate of Miami Law, he was admitted to the bar in NY, GA and FL, passing the exam each time on the first try. He practiced general litigation and real estate law until he needed to take care of his parents, and his own health, full-time. He is survived by his mother Ruth (Dubrow) of Coconut Creek, and sister Joanne, of NYC; uncle Irving Gruber, of NYC; sister-in-law, Patricia Adams, of Providence, and nieces, Alice Phinizy (Boston)and Laura Gruber (Providence); and countless loving and devoted cousins in FL, NY and elsewhere. The Cuban American Bar Association recently announced its election results. Five newly elected members are Miami Law alumni, including the president, Victoria Méndez, JD '00. Other alums included Raúl J. Chacón, Jr., JD '93, Isabel C. Diaz, JD '04, Anna Marie "Annie" Hernandez, JD '01, Nicole Mestre, JD '99, all of whom were elected to the 2011 Board of Directors.

Stuart F. Karden, JD '76, was named by Attorney General Eric Holder as one of 24 new immigration judges. Karden practiced immigration law in South Florida from 1995 until 2009 in Palm Beach County. He then practiced in Dallas until October 2010. The University of Miami alumnus and Florida Bar member was also the past chair of the Florida Bar Immigration Certification Committee and a past president of the American Immigrations Lawyers Association South Florida Chapter.

Alumnus José Manuel Pallí, J.D. '83, MCL '84 hosts Miami Law's Second Peer Forum on Investment Arbitration
A welcome reception was held at the Coral Gables home of alumnus José Manuel Pallí, JD '83, MCL '84, and Marcia Pallí. This was followed by a day and a half of sharing expertise and experiences relating to investment arbitration, particularly as experienced by Latin American governments.
