With today's Green revolution and the growing need for conservation, many lawyers look to focus their careers towards the environmental arena. At Miami Law, our students can take a variety of courses to prepare themselves to one day work in some aspect of environmental law either in government, the non-profit sector, corporations, or in private practice.

The University of Miami School of Law offers a wide range of environmental law courses/seminars including:

  • International Environmental Law
  • Land Use Law
  • Ocean & Coastal Law
  • Environmental Litigation and Policies
  • Maritime Pollution
  • Toxic Torts and Toxic Regulation
  • Marine Ecology and the Law
  • Natural Resources and Energy Law
  • Everglades/Ecosystem Restoration Seminar

Miami Law also offers a joint J.D./M.P.S. in Marine Affairs degree with the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science -- ranked as one of the top five Geoscience institutions in the United States.

And, we have a joint J.D./Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy (ECS) from the Leonard and Jayne Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy (ECS).

In addition, our faculty includes some of the leading experts on Environmental Law issues with experience working on top level environmental policy initiatives.

Professor Bernard Oxman is one of the world's top experts on the laws of the sea and currently sits on the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Professor Mary Doyle is co-director of the University's Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy and teaches property, land use and water law.

Professor Richard Williamson teaches introductory and advanced courses in environmental law, courses and seminars on international environmental law.
