The University of Miami School of Law is not unmoved by the challenges facing our students in the current global economy. We are taking proactive steps to identify and develop opportunities to assist our students as they transition into their professional careers, and have gathered the following resources in the hopes of providing some relief. We will continue to add to and update this page as we learn of additional opportunities for law graduates. For more information on any of the resources listed here, please contact the Dean of Students Office at (305) 284-4551.

Health Insurance Resources
Health insurance through the University of Miami is available to students enrolled in six or more credit hours (or considered full time) (see exceptions). Graduating seniors, and others leaving the University, are encouraged to seek alternative coverage well before the termination of their current plan. Policies for students covered by the University-sponsored health plan will terminate August 14, 2009. Students who are covered under their parents' health plan are encouraged to find out their termination dates.

Information on short term coverage is available from www.ehealthinsurance.com, www.assuranthealth.com, or from UnitedHealthcare.

Additionally, here’s an offer from the ABA Law Student Division:

The ABA Law Student Division health insurance plan with UnitedHealthcare Student Resources (UHCSR) offers a health insurance coverage extension for up to one year from the student’s graduation date PROVIDED the student is currently carrying this plan AND there is no break (lapse) in coverage between the date of graduation and the first day of this one-year extension. Graduating law students, who are currently uninsured, may purchase the 2008-2009 ABA/LSD plan coverage prior to graduating or no later than May 15, 2009, whichever occurs first. Students may view the health plan benefits at https://www.uhcsr.com/ABA . For more information about this option, click here or send an email to The ABA Law Student Division at ABALSD@staff.abanet.org.

Law Library Resources

  • The Law Library at the UM does not cut off circulation privileges (mostly important for study rooms) for new graduates until after the bar exam.
